I made some Minnie cupcakes recently and managed to take some photos of the process. These cupcakes are admittedly time consuming, but the end result is very much worth the trouble. Let&#8217;s take a look at the process, shall we?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nHere we have the usual suspects: assorted cake tools, fondant and a template (not pictured). Also not pictured is an exacto knife. You absolutely <i>must<\/i> have an exacto knife when you are working on these types of things. It will make your life so much easier. Trust me on that one.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-489 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Start by cutting out a black circle of fondant.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-490 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2.png\" alt=\"2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ice your cupcake and put that black fondant right on. Smooth it on with a fondant smoother. Don&#8217;t be shy.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-491 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/3.png\" alt=\"3\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Make this shape with some flesh colored fondant.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-492 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/4.png\" alt=\"4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ah! There&#8217;s that template! Templates are a must for getting details just right. I like to cover mine in clear tape and dust with a little cornstarch before using. Cut around your template.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-493 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/5.png\" alt=\"5\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Place on top of cupcake, being sure to line it up with that shape we made before.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-494 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/6.png\" alt=\"6\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Looking good.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-495 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/7.png\" alt=\"7\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s make a nose. Just a little bit of black fondant will do.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-496 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/8.png\" alt=\"8\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;ve use the edge of a circle cutter to make an indentation for the mouth and shall add some pink edible dust for the blush.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-497 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/9.png\" alt=\"9\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using my template as a guide, I made some eyes using black and white fondant.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-499 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/11.png\" alt=\"11\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And now for the eyelashes, because without them, well, Minnie would be Mickey. And we want Minnie.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/minnie_eyelashes.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-514 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/minnie_eyelashes.png\" alt=\"minnie_eyelashes\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUsing this neat little mold by Wilton, I shall place some fondant in the large bow mold. You could totally make a bow by hand, which I often do, but these are tedious enough and any time I can save is a plus!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-500 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/13.png\" alt=\"13\" width=\"600\" height=\"496\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cutting off the excess fondant for a nice bow.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/14.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-501 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/violascakes.com\/cakes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/14.png\" alt=\"14\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here we are with ears, which I have cut out with circle cutters.
